Privacy policy

The short version: we don't ask you to sign up, we don't collect your name or email to use the site, and the answers you enter into our tools stay in your browser. Here are the specifics.

What we don't collect

There are no accounts, no logins, and no email gate anywhere on Name Change Atlas. We don't ask for personal information to read a page or use a tool, and we don't sell or rent data to anyone.

The tools

The cost calculator, who-to-notify checklist, and timeline generator all run in your browser. What you select — your state, your situation, the accounts you check off — is used to build your result on your device and, where a tool offers "save my progress," stored locally in your browser (localStorage). None of it is transmitted to us or to any third party. Clear your browser storage and it's gone.

Analytics

To understand which pages help people, we use a privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics tool (Umami). It records aggregate usage — page views, referrers, rough country and device type — without cookies and without building a profile of you across sites. It does not collect information that identifies you personally.

Hosting and logs

The site is served from our own infrastructure. Like any web server, the host may process standard technical request data (such as IP address and user-agent) transiently to deliver pages and guard against abuse. We don't use that data to identify or track individuals.

Links and any advertising

We link to official government and court websites so you can act on the primary source. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control. If we display advertising in the future, ad partners may set their own cookies or identifiers; we'll label ads and update this page with the specifics before that goes live.

Children

Name Change Atlas is a general-audience reference and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
